How to get married on the Sunshine Coast

Six simple steps from booking to being legally married.

1. Click Get Married

Fill out the booking form and pay the $700 fee. That is the best place to start.

2. Prepare your NOIM

Complete your Notice of Intended Marriage, have it witnessed by an authorised witness, and send it to us. NOIM Easy can walk you through it step by step.

3. Send your ID and documents

We will need your identity documents and, if relevant, proof of divorce, death of a former spouse, or translations.

4. We confirm the details

Once your paperwork is received, we confirm a date, time, and place based on when the NOIM arrives and our availability.

5. Get married

Meet us in person with two adult witnesses, say the legal words, sign the paperwork, and you are married.

All done

We lodge the paperwork with Births, Deaths and Marriages Queensland. You order the official certificate from BDM QLD when you need it.

Good to know

Important legal and practical points for getting married on the Sunshine Coast.

One calendar month notice

Your Notice of Intended Marriage must reach us at least one calendar month before the marriage date, and no more than 18 months before.

You must be there in person

Australian marriages cannot happen online or by proxy. Both people, the celebrant, and two witnesses must be physically present.

Two witnesses aged 18+

Bring two adult witnesses, or ask us about our witness service if you need help.

Not a government service

We are private celebrants offering a registry-style option. We are not a government office or courthouse.

Want a big ceremony?

That is not what this site is for. Please book a full-service celebrant like Josh Withers.

Want an elopement?

Please book Elopement Collective if you want an elopement experience instead of a paperwork-only marriage.

Frequently asked questions about Sunshine Coast weddings

Common questions about cheap, simple, and affordable weddings on the Sunshine Coast.

How much does it cost to get married on the Sunshine Coast?

Our paperwork-only marriage service costs $700. This includes the celebrant, the legal ceremony, help with the paperwork process, and lodgement with Births, Deaths and Marriages Queensland. It is one of the cheapest ways to get legally married on the Sunshine Coast.

Is this a courthouse or government registry?

No. We are private celebrants offering a registry-style, paperwork-only marriage service. Queensland does not have a government marriage registry you can walk into. Instead, registered celebrants like us perform all marriages. Our service works like a courthouse wedding — quick, simple, and affordable — but we are not a government office.

Can we get married without having a wedding?

Yes. A paperwork-only marriage is a legal marriage without any wedding ceremony or celebration. You meet with the celebrant and two witnesses, say the legal words required by the Marriage Act, sign the documents, and you are married. No aisle, no reception, no guests beyond your witnesses.

How long does the process take?

You must lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one calendar month before the marriage date. Once your paperwork is received and a date confirmed, the actual ceremony takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Most couples complete the process in five to six weeks from start to finish.

Where on the Sunshine Coast can we get married?

We serve the entire Sunshine Coast from Caloundra to Noosa, including Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Coolum, the hinterland towns of Maleny and Montville, and as far as Gympie, Hervey Bay, and Maryborough. You can meet us at a beach, a park, your home, or any convenient spot.

What do we need to get married?

You need a completed Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) lodged at least one month ahead, valid identity documents (usually a passport, or birth certificate plus photo ID), two adult witnesses on the day, and both parties physically present. We guide you through every step.
