Registry-style marriages by private celebrants, not a government service. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Overseas Visitors Getting Married on the Sunshine Coast

You do not need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to get married on the Sunshine Coast.

Visitors, tourists, and temporary visa holders can marry here as long as they meet the normal legal requirements.

What still applies

  • the NOIM must be lodged in time
  • both people must be physically present for the marriage
  • two adult witnesses are needed
  • identity documents are required
  • any previous marriage must have legally ended

If you are overseas before travelling here

You can still start the process early.

You may be able to sign the NOIM overseas before an authorised witness such as an Australian diplomatic or consular officer, a notary public, or another approved witness.

Helpful tip

Leave enough time for the one-month notice period and for international document questions.
